Cristopher Flint (CHRISTIANITY)
Riaz Ansari (ISLAM)
Dr. M. Bala Thrumaningam (HINDUISM) - wasn't able to come.
It was unexpected for me to go to this dialogue. I was interested at first when I read about its ad (Love at first sight??) but then rain poured down heavily, so it reduced my interest gradually.
Unexpected guest (Kak Ainul...) came to my room and asked whether I wanted to join this dialogue or not. It was 6pm, so of courselaa it wasn't expected as she always comes back from center at 10pm.
So I wentlaa...
Speakers from Buddha and Christian were speaking bravely and full of confident, whereas Muslim representative was so disappointed. I wished he would use easy terms to explain about Islam and speak confidently. It was so unfortunate that the speaker from Hindu side wouldn't able to come due to unavoidable matter.
Their speeches were about the purpose of life according to their teaching.
A Buddhist purposes of life is to attain Nirvana ( a state of mind/consciousness). Nirvana is a state of being where there is no suffering because one's mind is completely free from the defilements of greed, hatred and delusion. In its place, there is wisdom and compassion.
What is more important for a Buddhist is not WHAT Nirvana is, but HOW to attain it.
They believe in rebirth of life, so if a person can't attain Nirvana in present life, they will try to get it in another life.
The essense of Dharma ( the core teaching) is:
To avoid evil
Do good
Purify the mind
Dr. Chan believes that DOING is more important than BELIEVE. That is why Buddhism is different from any other religions.
Now comes the Christianity...
Most of his speeches were full of Bible recitation and it was quite hard to get the meaning. However, to conclude all of his points, the purpose of life according to Christianity teaching is LOVE.
He said that there is one similarity in there religions (ISLAM, BUDDHISM and HINDUISM) which is DO but it isn't the same with Christian as it had been done by Jesus. As we know, they believe that Jesus died and wiped off all of Christian sbelievers sins. And Jesus did that because of LOVE.
I would like to share one of phrases from Bible:
"The most important one" answered Jesus, "is this: "Hear, O Israel, the Lord of our God, the Lord is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strenght."
"Second is this: "Love your neighbour as yourself." There is no commandment greater than these."
Do good
Purify the mind

Jesus Christ (Mark 12:29-31)
He got compliment from Christopher and I thought he deserved it...(Even Christopher still have to refe to Bible).
I was so jealous of him and wish to be like him as well, insyaAllah. It would be better if he was on the stage instead of Riaz.(No offence..just an honest opinion!)
